About
With a long-term commitment to innovative systems change, Laura Nissen has worked with futures practice and lenses throughout her career. She’s a former dean and current professor of social work at the School of Social Work at Portland State University. She’s the first inaugural Presidential Futures Fellow and a founder of the Portland State University Futures Collaboratory. Laura Is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Future. She’s a foresight practitioner committed to liberatory and justice-centered futures for all. She’s done presentations throughout the United States on futures issues including the National Association of Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work, the Council on Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting, and has consulted with social work education programs to assist them in preparing for a volatile future. Her focus areas primarily involve the future of well-being at the individual and community levels, the future of social justice and equity, and the future of public higher education.
